The Purpose
To allow the Holy Spirit to teach us through the Word and the gifts in the group, applying truth to individuals' lives so that they grow. This is not an ethereal bible “study”, but an application of the Word that is 1) personal, 2) specific and 3) practical.

How?
Your role is to facilitate discussion, not to do a 40 min preach! It is likely that there will be questions about questions, even from the discussion prompter. Don’t be afraid to ask them and expect cell members to enquire further when understanding is needed.

Material is provided for the Word section — notes and discussion questions are prepared by the preacher, indicating how he/she feels that God wants us to let His words speak into our lives.

Questions like:

a) What stands out to you in this passage?
b) What is the main point?
c) Can you illustrate this truth from an example in your own life?
d) In what area of your life do you struggle the most in applying this truth?
e) What is God saying to you through this Scripture?
f) Where do you need God's help right now?
g) If you could ask God for anything right now what would it be?

Some of the content can be portrayed visually, even just writing some scriptures or headings out on paper.

It is unlikely the discussion prompter will have all the answers! Even if they have, it will not assist the Word time for one person to dominate the discussion.

The main thing is to get people involved. Splitting people up into smaller groups ensures this is more likely to happen.

We want the Word section to change us and leave us with some specific, personal challenges to go away with.
