Orphaned, crippled and abandoned

Cell Group Application Questions

Lk 15: lost sheep, the lost coin, and the lost son.

Jn 14: 18 I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.

2Sam 4:4,

(Saul's son Jonathan had a son named Mephibosheth, who was

crippled as a child. He was five years old when the report came from

Jezreel that Saul and Jonathan had been killed in battle. When the

child's nurse heard the news, she picked him up and fled. But as

she hurried away, she dropped him, and he became crippled.)

Do not let your expectations be limited by your experience!!

Is your glass half full or half empty?

Man hanging from a twig half way down a cliff face. Is any one there? Is anyone else there?

3 things happened:

1.   He was orphaned

Father and grandfather killed

2.   He was crippled

It’s believed that as they fled in the panic the nurse dropped him and horses or a cart crushed him.

3.   He was displaced

Loss of status and of lands

He lived at a place called Lodebar “The waste lands, the arid lands“

2Sa 9:1  One day David asked, "Is anyone in Saul's family still alive—anyone to whom I can show kindness for Jonathan's sake?"

2Sa 9:2  He summoned a man named Ziba, who had been one of Saul's servants. "Are you Ziba?" the king asked. "Yes sir, I am," Ziba replied.

2Sa 9:3  The king then asked him, "Is anyone still alive from Saul's family? If so, I want to show God's kindness to them." Ziba replied, "Yes, one of Jonathan's sons is still alive. He is crippled in both feet."

2Sa 9:4  "Where is he?" the king asked. "In Lo-debar," …

V5,    David Sent for Him.

2Sa 9:7  "Don't be afraid!" David said. "I intend to show kindness to you because of my promise to your father, Jonathan. I will give you all the property that once belonged to your grandfather Saul, and you will eat here with me at the king's table!"

2Sam 9:8

Mephibosheth bowed down and said, "What is your servant, that you should notice a dead dog like me?"

Low self worth

Abandonment

Fear

2 Sam 9:11

Then Ziba said to the king, (tend the land feed the family)"Your servant will do whatever my lord the king commands his servant to do."

So Mephibosheth ate at David's table like one of the king's sons.

Jn 17:22 I have given them the glory/honor that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one: 23 I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.

“Stop rocking the boat and get out on the water and walk!”

“It doesn’t take a bucket load of mountain to move a mustard seed.

It takes faith the size of a mustard seed to move a mountain“

Mat 17:20  "It was because you do not have enough faith," answered Jesus. "I assure you that if you have faith as big as a mustard seed, you can say to this hill, 'Go from here to there!' and it will go. You could do anything!"

Rev 3:20  "Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear My voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends.

Fellowship together, relationship restored, Talk it over with Jesus (pray), be prepared to be the answer.
