OVERSEAS MISSION ORGANISATIONS THAT OUR CHURCH SUPPORTS
You can find out more about the organisations that we particularly support by clicking on the relevant hypertext links.
As a church we have had a long history of interest in mission to the Arab World and have taken a special interest in the plight of the church in Sudan. We have developed links with northern Uganda.
MAIN ORGANISATIONS SUPPORTED
ARAB WORLD MINISTRIES (AWM) We particularly support Margaret (name changed for security purposes) who works in London. Jayne, a member of our congregation, works in the AWM office in Loughborough.
OTHER ORGANISATIONS SUPPORTEDCHRISTIAN AID The church supports Christian Aid week when some members of the congregation take part in house-to-house collections and others support the cake stall in the market. Each year we usually also host one of the Christian Aid meals held monthly in one of the Loughborough churches. These are simple meals for which participants are encouraged to make a generous donation to CA funds. Some members of our Church get involved in Christian Aid campaigns such as world debt relief and the Make Poverty History campaign. See the Outreach noticeboard in the hall or the Issues of Justice page on this web site for details about Christian Aid’s latest campaigns.
The BARNABAS FUND keeps us well informed with news about the suffering church around the world. See the Outreach notice board for recent news or visit the links on our Persecution of Christians page. Even better subscribe to their monthly magazine and prayer newsletters. The latter can be sent to you by e-mail.
TEARFUND From time to time we support specific fundraising campaigns for overseas projects. When world crises arise we have often contributed to specific relief funds managed by Tearfund.
TESO DEVELOPMENT TRUST (TDT) Find out more about Margaret and Roger Stevens’ involvement in the work of TDT by clicking here.
UNDER TREE SCHOOLS Some people support this organisation that was set up by Revd. Joseph Ayok-Lowenberg who we supported when he and his wife, Karin, were Mission Partners with CMS. The organisation is helping with the building and management of a new girls' school in southern Sudan. The organisation's name comes from it's support in the past for schools meeting under trees, which was necessary when that region of Sudan was unstable and it was important that the school could be established and packed up quickly.
